ORGAN MANAGEMENT IN EUROPE SINCE 1990 • CD- AND DVD-LABEL

"As a friend and former executive director of the Frauenkirche Foundation, I have been informed by Samuel Kummer in recent weeks about the labor dispute between him and the Foundation. His assessment of the conflict was always balanced and fair. I cannot understand that the management apparently neither sees a way nor looks for possibilities to keep Samuel Kummer in the team of the Frauenkirche.

Looking back on my work at the Frauenkirche Foundation, I am well aware of some criticisms of his person. In my opinion, they were never of a quality that would have necessarily led to a warning and certainly not suitable to justify his dismissal.

In no other work context in my more than 35 years of professional activity have I experienced individual failures being sanctioned as severely as was the case with Samuel Kummer. This surprises me all the more because the Frauenkirche wants to be perceived as a symbol of peace and reconciliation.

I am appalled at how little consideration and appreciation is given to the great services Samuel Kummer has rendered to the music at the Dresden Frauenkirche for over 17 years. He is a nationally and internationally highly esteemed organist. With him, the cultural city of Dresden would lose a great ambassador; the people of Dresden would lose a kind fellow human being.
