1) “We know how light is refracted, but light remains a miracle”: this quote from Albert Schweitzer says a lot about the nature of a man who, even as a scientist, never forgot to marvel at the miracle of life. Albert Schweitzer: theologian and doctor, scientist and musician, Nobel Peace Prize winner and the “little brother of God”, as he was once called in a report. His work, research and life would be enough for several lifetimes.
This year marks the 150th anniversary of the world-famous Alsatian's birth and 60 years since his death. To mark the occasion, Albert Schweitzer's touching and stirring texts, which have lost none of their topicality, can be heard in the Stadtkirche Bayreuth. This will be accompanied by organ works and songs by Johann Sebastian Bach - the musician whom Albert Schweitzer admired in a special way.
