ORGAN MANAGEMENT IN EUROPE SINCE 1990 • CD- AND DVD-LABEL

Improvisation on the organ is a fascination both for the musician concerned and for the listener. The course offers the possibility to experience two musicians of different schools and styles and to work with them. Thus this course is available for active or passive participants. The venue is St. Nicholas Minster and the Franciscan Church in Überlingen.

Course contents include various styles, forms and techniques, developed in a way that the beginner and the so experienced organist can profit. Basic knowledge of harmony and Satztechnik is a prerequisite for active participants.

Frederik Blanc

Frederic Blanc (*1967) studied organ at the conservatories of Toulouse and Bordeaux under such names as André Fleury, Marie-Claire Alain, Pierre Cogen and Marie-Madeleine Duruflé. He is recognised to be the last of Duruflé's pupils, took into his care numerous manuscripts of hers and today lives in what used to be her apartment. Prize-winner in prestigious international competitions (2nd Prize at the Grand Prix de Chartres 1996 and 1st Prize at the Concours international de la Ville de Paris 1997), he began an international career as a concert organist, improviser and teacher which took him to almost all European countries and to the USA, where he is regularly invited to the most important universities to give Master Classes. Frederic Blanc is official organist at the Church of Notre-Dame d‘Auteuil in Paris. He is also Musical Director of the Association Maurice et Marie-Madeleine Duruflé.

Johannes Mayr

Johannes Mayr (*1963) studied catholic church-music in Stuttgart under Rudolf Walter, Ludger Lohmann and Willibald Bezler. He worked as professional church musician under the Deanery in Bad Wurzach and as Regional Kantor in Stuttgart (St. Fidelis). Today he is the Cathedral organist at St. Eberhard's Cathedral in Stuttgart. He has taught at the Music College and at the College for Church Music in Tuebingen. At present he teaches organ improvisation at the Stuttgart Music College. He is a prize-winner in several Improvisation Competitions, including 1st Prizes at the European Organ Improvisation Contest in Schwäbisch Gmünd (1989), the International Organ Improvisation Contest in Montbrison/France 1991 and the International Organ Contest "Orgel ohne Grenzen" in Dudelange/Luxemburg 2009.
